If none of the other methods work then go back to basics and hook your TV up to your laptop or desktop via an HDMI cable. Does your computer has speakers?

If yes, then they will serve as sound system for you. If you watch movies using any kind of media player like VLC ,then you can control the volume from its interface.

You would need a separate cable to carry sound. The same applies for DVI. If they both do, that would be the best option for you because once connected through a HDMI cable, it would carry both video and sound. If it is over that, it is probably formatted with NTFS. If your drive is formatted with fat32, the only other thing you have to make sure is that the video files you have are compatible with the TV, to be played. I have to use a cheap Chinese media player that enables me to play the movies on my TV. What is the difference between the two TV's that allows him to play via the USB stick and me not, and how do you know when you buy a TV?

Could be a number of things, by the way VLC is not a format, it's a player that plays pretty well everything. To know what a particular TV plays? First stop, the manual. All I know is that the movies with the traffic cone logo along side them won't play on his TV, everything else will, and yes, I've tried the same stick on both TV's. My sticks are all formatted as FAT It won't work. What is the format of the file s which won't play? What is the extension? You can right-click on the file to get this detail.

It could be an mp4, avi, mkv "container". Maybe your TV can't handle the container type mkv? You can review the specs, or the user's manual, to get a feel for which file types may be supported. Also be aware that the thumb drive type may be a factor. If it loads as removable storage in Windows you may have to use right click menu to eject it before it can be used in TV set.

Other thumb drives load as if a hard drive and do not require this step. I don't think this model is capable of playing anything on a USB stick other than music and photos. You have confirmed thumb drive is prepared for non computer use as mentioned above?

I bought two 20" LCD TV's for my granddaughters bedrooms, thinking they could watch some children's cartoons before going to bed. My son in law now has to convert everything they want to watch. You would think all TVs now would play off a flash drive but there are still a few that don't. I was visiting a nursing home overseas earlier this year and wanted to show someone some videos and while there were three different brands of TV, none very old, they would not play my videos.Have you tried contacting Onn support yet to inquire further?

With this information you could try to find the user manual and maybe somebody in this community may have that particular device. You really need to check the specs of the TV, but as my own rule of thumb when dealing with an unknown, I would format the sticks as FAT The solution in these cases is to make an avi of the images which you then play as a 'movie' on the TV endlessly looping until you switch it off.

You would need to download one of several programs to do this, e. FAT32 Format. Thanks everyone. I've tried but sadly its not easy to get the spec of the TVs so my first port of call is to change the formatting to FAT32 which I think stands a fair chance of doing the trick.

Does anyone know if typically there is a limit to the number of photos a TV can accept for a slide show or do they just keep on downloading them?

At the moment there are about max I can reduce this if necessary and they average around 2MP each. Keep the images diary small - 1mb ish or smaller : as the TV may almost probably won't have a fast USB reader as it isn't needed for what it does and large images will just give you a blank screen as it tries to read them, plus the display quality isn't high even full HD and making the images large is a water of space. I'm going to the venue early next week to try FAT32 and memory sticks with differennt numbers of photos just in case.

Many or most cameras start a new folder after images, but I think this is just for easier organization, not because of any limit. FAT32 is limited tofiles. The more frequently encountered limit is that files cannot be larger than 4GB.

Many TVs won't play images if they're in the root folder, so put the images into a folder you can call it something like "Photos" or "Presentation". I'd say it's safe to assume that a player should be able to deal with photos in a folder. That's the limit I've seen on some cameras which likely use similar FAT access software.

Prescaler formula

Downscaling them to full HD resolution x would probably be wise, as well, since you never know what the equipment will support in terms of the maximum resolution of photos.

It's usually safe to assume that it can display photos of the same resolution as the screen. If you have your own player device then there's a lot less to go wrong in relying on the HDMI connection than on the vagaries of the media player software inside the TV. I've got a Roku 2 XS. There is a "media player" app that allows you to play jpeg, video or mp3 from a thumb drive.

I play the stuff on a 50" plasma.

No sweat, easy stuff. That's important if you want your camera to be able to display the images, but for a TV or media player device it really shouldn't make any difference. That's a pretty good idea. No need to consider the TV's capabilities.During these challenging times, we guarantee we will work tirelessly to support you.
